National

Brunei Darussalam will continue to invest the time and effort in marine science into the younger generations that will be the next key players in sustaining ocean governance in the future. Therefore, all stakeholders are urged to adopt environmental-conscious practices to achieve sustainable economic development. Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of The World Oceans Day, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism said that several changes due to climate change not only affect the balance of marine food cycles and ecosystems but also affect the lives of communities that depend on the ocean for food, income and cultural heritage.

100 units of reef balls in four different sizes were placed in the waters of Pelong Rocks in conjunction with the World Oceans Day 2025 celebration. This year's celebration themed, "Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us", carries the message that the ocean is not just a resource, but rather a vast living system that provides food, shelter and shapes the nation's identity.
